This morning I was putting on my makeup. I used a Q-Tip to wipe off some extra eyeliner, as I sometimes do. Suddenly, a strange feeling came over me; I had the burning desire to do something reckless. I think it's because I've been watching the Winter Olympics. Those athletes live on the edge, careening down icy slopes, pushing the envelope of what's possible. It's obviously exhilarating, and danger is part of the thrill.
This morning, as I finished applying my makeup, I wanted to feel that same thrill. I wanted to take a risk, and do something that would make me feel truly alive.
With a rush of adrenaline, I stuck a Q-TIp in my ear.
I did it in defiance of the words written on the box: "CAUTION! DO NOT INSERT IN EAR CANAL."
To adrenaline junkies, danger is exciting. And there's danger lurking in my box of Q-Tips - that's why there's a warning on the box. No, I've never heard of "Death by Q -Tip." Q-Tips aren't weapons in the game of "Clue." They're not on the list of banned carry-on items. Still, there's a warning on the box. That means there's a risk that something will happen; in other words, danger.
Unfortunately, risking that kind of danger is the closest I'll ever get to the excitement of competing in the Olympics.
